In order to help us pitch the series, earlier this year we wrote, directed, shot and edited a 16 minute short film that acts as a proof-of-concept. The film is a simplified version of the first half of the PILOT episode and was produced with a micro-budget of $5,000.
The film follows Eli, a teenager raised in the wilderness by his father, who enters society for the first time in his life. Unable to let go of his traumatic past, Eli is forced to enroll in The Woods. The film hints at various plot points from the series, introduces the Doctor, sets the scene, and most importantly provides an example of one of our many complex characters.
The short film is currently in consideration at major film festivals, with the goal being to get it in front of eyes that can help us take it to series. Ultimately, the short proves that even with a small budget we know how to effectively and visually tell a story.
